Introduction
Banknote
Watch is a partnership between the manufacturers/installers &
users of cash staining systems, the Government and Police. It
has sought specialist advise from the Bank of England and is supported
by the Home Office, Scottish Executive, Northern Ireland Office
and leading financial/retail organisations.
The
aim of Banknote Watch is:
To
prevent criminals profiting from the proceeds of crime and reduce
the risk of businesses becoming the victims of commercial robbery.
To
achieve this aim Banknote Watch has four objectives:
- To
significantly raise awareness of the public at large that "a
stained note is probably a stolen note"
- To
encourage the immediate withdrawal of stained banknotes from
circulation
- To
develop a network for the exchange of information by the appropriate
authorities
- To
enhance the deterrent value of smoke/dye systems.
The
Association of Chief Police Officers of England, Wales and Northern
Ireland and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland
fully support Banknote Watch and are the lead police organisations.
We
are pursuing the following marketing strategy:
- Branding
Banknote Watch through a long term publicity campaign
- Poster
and Leaflet distribution
- Our
Web site: www.banknotewatch.org, a focus for disseminating information,
with links to associated web sites.
